1. Kyle Schwarber is playing out of his mind

His fame has grown over the past two years for historic home-run-clobbering months of June (sixteen in 2021, twelve this past month) — and now he’s at it again in the month of July, too.

Two home runs on Tuesday night. Two home runs last night.

That’s 27 on the season so far, second place overall in the leaderboards and inching even closer to Aaron Judge.

2. Shohei Ohtani being marooned on a struggling Angels team…

…continues to be the saddest story in baseball.

And nothing against the team, but he deserves much better supporting cast — and most importantly, a postseason appearance. Many of them.

Here’s what he was up to last night (and the Angels won):

3. Mookie Betts hits his first walk-off with the Dodgers

A chopper into the ground a few feet in front of the plate, later ruled a fielders choice —and as he put it after the game:

“It wasn’t pretty, but the job got done.”

4. Now this is a true baseball highlight

From earlier this week, the Tigers grounds crew recovering the first career home run ball from rookie Riley Greene — a walk-off into the bushes at Comerica Park.

5. And 39-year-old Miguel Cabrera is having a sneaky good season

Even if batting average “doesn’t matter” to the stats people anymore, this is notable — he’s hitting .308 on the year and just about matching his career mark (.310).

6. From last week: The Stanley Cup visited Coors Field

7. Aaron Judge has 30 home runs, and the Yankees won 16–0

The Yankees are great. The Pirates are not great. But still, that’s a beatdown you simply don’t see everyday. Two grand slams. Sixteen runs. A shutout.

8. Hello Kitty made a very questionable first pitch

Maybe she was just nervous, being around the famously feline-obsessed Tony Gonsolin.

9. The Mets had a big comeback to keep pace ahead of the Braves

Their huge division lead has been slipping away, the Braves won again last night, and the Mets went into the ninth down by a run until pulling out a rally late.

10. And lastly, here’s a world class highlight to close out the newsletter

Angel’s in the outfield.

11. Wait no, we can’t end with that

Instead, here’s the catch of the day — a lifetime moment from this kid in the crowd in Cincinnati.
