1. Johnny Cueto stole second base

When you’ve just seen a unicorn event, that takes precedence over the entire newsletter. Johnny Cueto. Stealing a base. A wonder to behold.

And in Giants’ team history, it’s been eighteen years:

2. Nelson Cruz’s first hit with the Rays is a home run

Get off the plane, meet the new team, suit up, and go yard.

It’s just that easy, right?

3. Trevor Bauer appeared at a court hearing

It’s increasingly looking like he won’t return this year, with much of the Dodgers fanbase seemingly turning on him — but, you never know.

Yesterday, he appeared in court, regarding the restraining order that had been filed against him, and was granted a “continuance” for the hearing to resume in two weeks.

Dodgers bloggers don’t seem to be a fan of the guy, by and large:

4. Tony La Russa got ejected for the first time in 10 years

One of the calmer ejections you’ll ever see, which is what happens when you’re managing a baseball team at 76 years old:

But then minutes later, Tim Anderson was not so calm — and got tossed immediately:

5. Home run of the night: Pete Alonso going 450 feet

At home, in the Big Apple. Destroying this ball, for a 3–0 Mets lead.

And now they have a “home run horse” in the dugout, with Pete Alonso galloping all the way:

6. The Yankees lose again at Fenway, falling nine games back

Rafael Devers hit home run #100 of his brilliant young career, and the Yankees lost their second in a row to the Red Sox:

And these Yankees, self-admittedly, are having a hard time in the “fun” department:

7. There was a huge full moon over the Giants game

As as the moon sometimes does, it casts an eerie spell over the best-in-baseball Giants, and they lose to the Pirates 6–4.

8. Bryce Harper steals home (and every other base)

Not a straight steal, but still — a nifty bit of base-running from a guy who’s not normally thought of as a runner.

9. Catch of the night: Michael Conforto

10. The crowd at a WWE event in Cleveland responds to the Indians’ name change

John “Guardians” Cena on the microphone:

11. Quote of the night: Ozzie Guillen

He chimes in on the Yermin Mercedes situation, saying that he’s a “cheeseburger kid”, “fat boy”, and then: “You’re not Ohtani.”

Here’s the video:

12. And lastly, the second-best quote of the night: Bob Melvin

Part-time manager of the Oakland A’s, full-time Friends fan.
