1. Mets owner Steve Cohen goes after his players on Twitter

He started off his tenure this winter as the giant-pocketed, tentatively beloved “Uncle Steve” among Mets fans sick of the Wilpon era, and now the owner that’ll save us has become a bit of an ear-sore in Mets Land.

The Mets are in freefall, deGrom is still out, they’re under .500 now and in third place, after holding first place in the NL East for ninety days — and now the owner is setting his own Twitter rules.

Here was the manager, Luis Rojas, on Cohen’s comment:

2. The Yankees sweep the Red Sox in a doubleheader and pass them in the standings

Many were saying the season was lost weeks ago, or if maybe the Yankees could bounce back, there might just be time by the end of the season to make up ground.

But now in mid-August, they’ve already gone and done it.

3. Highlights from the doubleheader at Yankee Stadium

First, a vintage Stantonian blast to left-center field:

And then, Wandy Peralta with a brilliant recovery play on the mound to get out of the sixth inning:

And earlier in the afternoon, the Yankees “down to the cuticles”, Jonathan Loaisiga closing out the first game with 100mph blown right past Hunter Renfroe:

4. A’s starter Chris Bassitt got hit in the head by a line drive

Scary scenes last night on the mound in Chicago, after a very hard-hit comebacker struck him in the side of the head — if you’d like to see the video just search “Chris Bassitt” on Twitter, but here’s the aftermath:

Thankfully, it looks like he’s going to be okay, from reports this morning:

5. Jack Morris gets suspended from Tigers broadcasts

In response to a comment he made about Shohei Ohtani during the game that many interpreted as mocking an Asian accent (with others thinking it was just a bad Elmer Fudd impression — and it’s hard to tell exactly what the guy was going for).

Here’s the clip:

And the apology:

6. Miguel Cabrera pickpockets Shohei Ohtani’s batting gloves

Not the first bit of fun they’ve had at first base this year:

7. “Toughing it out” moment of the week

Not sure Bud Black had to go tell the world about his pitcher’s bathroom pains, but hey — he was just that proud of his guy.

8. Nelson Cruz crushes two home runs at The Trop

And the Rays keep rolling on, blowing out the lowly Orioles yet again.

9. Yermin Mercedes might be heading to Japan

He’s a bit of an unpredictable guy, having retired earlier in the year for a day only to come right back — but now, he’s posted these images side by side on his Instagram account:

Based on that, knowing him, well, we know just about nothing.

10. And lastly, MC Hammer posted a video of him taking batting practice with the Twins before a game in the ‘90s

The context, from his Twitter:

“I was living at Paisley Park (R.I.P. Prince) working on my ‘2LEGIT2QUIT’ concept album. I decided to go hang with some old friends (Minnesota Twins), take some batting practice, relax, refresh and reinvigorate my mind.”
